A key to the first reading is the invitation "If anyone has ears to hear, let him listen to what the Spirit is saying to the Churches…" The phrase is similar to those used by Jesus in parables (cf. Mark 4:9.23; Matthew 11:15;13:9). It is an invitation to understand. So how do we understand the message to the angel of the Church in Ephesus?
